The ISME Journal
News from the EiC - January 2021
Our new leadership team has been working to improve the way The ISME Journal operates. We’ve thanked several outgoing Senior Editors for their service and have welcomed new team members. Overall, the number of Senior Editors has increased to help reduce workloads and increase diversity of expertise.
We have also focused on improving communications through regular update emails, welcoming feedback for improvement, and creating databases of Senior Editors and Editorial Board members to help match manuscripts to editors and reviewers based on expertise. In addition, we have updated/revised ISME J web pages, journal template emails, and streamlined aspects of the manuscript submission process. We are introducing new conflict of interest guidelines for authors and reviewers, while also requesting that authors make sequence data available prior to review. We look forward to better celebrating the outstanding papers published in our journal each year, in addition to recognizing excellence in those who serve as peer reviewers, especially those on our Editorial Board. Stay tuned for updates as we finalize details for new yearly awards that will help better highlight the amazing discoveries we publish each year and acknowledge the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. In order to improve the author experience, our Editor in Chief team has worked closely with Senior Editors and reviewers to ensure rapid processing of manuscripts submitted to The ISME Journal. Regardless of outcome, we are committed to ensuring that all manuscripts are offered rapid handling, careful decisions, and constructive feedback. We are working closely with ISME Communications to ensure that manuscripts find the best possible journal home within our two society journals. With 2020 drawing to a close, and looking forward to all that 2021 has to offer, we are eager to welcome exciting new microbial ecology discoveries that our members will send our way for consideration. Please keep us in mind for your best work! We wish our fellow society members a restful end to a difficult year and a productive beginning to 2021.
News from the EiC - January 2021
At ISME Communications exciting developments keep rolling in as the journal has officially been launched in October 2020 with manuscripts being submitted directly to ISME Comms as well as being transferred from the ISME Journal.
Our team at ISME Comms is rapidly being assembled, and we are now fully operational with the addition of Senior Editors and Editorial Board members. Being closely aligned with ISME J, recent improvements with respect to the submission process and templates for the editorial process, as well as setting up databases with keywords for Senior Editors and Editorial Board members have been directly implemented for ISME Comms from the very start. With our editorial team, we are furthermore developing a strategy to showcase the unique signature of ISME Comms during the upcoming online issues in 2021, highlighting the unique focus in ISME Comms on new methodological and computational approaches in microbial ecology. We look forward to evaluating your exciting research for the upcoming issues for ISME Comms.
