I am Akbar Adjie Pratama, a Joint Postdoctoral Fellow at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and The Ohio State University, specializing in microbial ecology. My research explores virus communities across diverse environments, from soil and oceans to groundwater, rock, and even the rumen gut. By integrating microbiology, ecology, and bioinformatics, I aim to understand how viruses shape ecosystems and influence host adaptation, particularly in the context of climate change.
Originally from Indonesia, I earned my bachelor’s degree at IPB University in Bogor, Indonesia, followed by a
master’s in Taiwan and a PhD in the Netherlands. After completing my PhD, I continued my research as a postdoctoral scholar at The Ohio State University before moving to Germany for my current position.
Beyond the lab, I am passionate about science communication, using graphic design and outreach to make complex scientific concepts more accessible and engaging for the public. I am also committed to supporting fellow early-career researchers, which led me to join the ISME Early Career Scientist Committee (ECSC) to help foster a more connected and inclusive community for microbial ecologists worldwide.
