I am Xiaohua Han, an assistant professor at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGGCAS). I am a microbial ecologist focusing on the interactions between microorganisms and minerals, as well as their preservation in both past and present environments.

I studied Geology at the China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and earned my PhD in Geobiology from IGGCAS. During my PhD, I also spent two years at the University of Tübingen in Germany, specializing in microbiology. Upon returning to IGGCAS, I continued my work as a postdoctoral fellow and later became an assistant professor.
My research aims to unravel the relationship between the geomagnetic field and microorganisms. I use advanced electron microscopy and geochemical techniques to investigate the mineralization processes of iron-metabolizing microorganisms and the biosignatures of magnetic minerals formed by microorganisms in the geological record.

I joined the ISME ECSC with a focus on advocating for early-career scientists at regional ISME meetings.
